The 7th International Forum on Technological Innovation and Intellectual Property Protection (TIIP) Held in Nanshan, Shenzhen, Centered on AI and Industrial Development

On October 24, 2024, the much-anticipated 7th International Forum on Technological Innovation and Intellectual Property Protection (TIIP) took place in the Hanlin Hall of Sheraton Hotel Bo Tian Rui in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. With the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Industrial Development”, the forum brought together over 300 renowned leaders of domestic and overseas tech enterprises, distinguished scholars, industry specialists and IP legal professionals to discuss the latest advances in artificial intelligence technology and its pivotal role in advancing industrial transformation and upgrading.

The forum officially kicked off with an opening address delivered by Liu Wenqiu, President of the Shenzhen Enterprise Science and Technology Innovation Association. President Liu extended a warm welcome to all attendees and underscored the great significance of holding the forum amid intensifying global technological competition. He expressed the hope that the event would further consolidate consensus, deepen cross-party cooperation, advance the deep integration of artificial intelligence technology and industries, and contribute to building a more open, collaborative and sustainable technological innovation ecosystem.

Following President Liu’s speech, Mr. Yang Pan, Secretary-General of the Guangdong Trademark Association, delivered a keynote address elaborating on the vital role of trademark protection in boosting brand growth and regulating market order. He also extended his sincere wishes for the full success of the International Forum on Technological Innovation and Intellectual Property Protection (TIIP).

Ms. Ge Siyuan, a senior patent attorney with profound legal expertise and in-depth insights into the AI sector, then presented a compelling speech titled U.S. Artificial Intelligence Patent Practices. She offered an accessible and thorough breakdown of the latest developments, filing strategies and examination standards governing AI patents in the United States.

Mr. Wang Yongwen, Founding Partner of Johnson Intellectual Property Agency (General Partnership), delivered a speech themed Offense and Defense in Chinese Patent Litigation – Case Studies. Drawing on his decades-long hands-on experience in the intellectual property field, he selected representative Chinese patent litigation cases to share valuable insights and practical takeaways from his representation work, offering critical references for all participants.

Mr. Sun Jian, Representative of TRY International Patent Business in Japan, delivered an insightful presentation entitled Current Status and Trends of Intellectual Property Rights in Japan in the AI Era. His speech focused extensively on generative AI, covering its overview, intersections with various branches of law, response frameworks and patent protection strategies. By linking rigorous theoretical analysis with real-world scenarios, the presentation enabled attendees to gain a more holistic understanding of the present landscape and future trajectory of intellectual property rights.

Centering on the new frontier of “AI Technological Innovation and Intellectual Property Protection”, Mr. Li Zhe, Vice President of Legal Affairs at Sanqi Interactive Entertainment Network Technology Group Co., Ltd., showcased the company’s practical achievements in AI innovation and IP governance, providing valuable references and inspirations for refining intellectual property protection systems.

A roundtable discussion followed the keynote sessions. Moderated by Liu Wenqiu, President of the Shenzhen Enterprise Science and Technology Innovation Association, the panel featured four distinguished guests: Yang Pan, Secretary-General of Guangdong Trademark Association; Wu Kelin, Founder of Shifang Shulian Digital Copyright; Jiang Shan, General Manager of Guangdong Loongson Electronic Technology Co., Ltd.; and Xu Wang, General Manager of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence (Qingdao) Co., Ltd. Against the backdrop of rapid AI advancement, large language models have been widely adopted by enterprises to drive digital and intelligent operations. Liu Hang, Senior Director of Customer Success at Shenzhen Biaopuyun Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a speech titled Successful Practices of Large Models in Enterprise Digital and Intelligent Operations, sharing the company’s valuable experience and innovative real-world cases in empowering enterprises to achieve digital and intelligent transformation.

Xu Chi, General Counsel of Shenzhen Micwell Technology Co., Ltd. (SMOORE International), shared actionable strategies and wisdom for enterprises to address cross-border intellectual property disputes based on frontline practice. He stressed that before expanding into overseas markets, enterprises should fully grasp the IP legal frameworks of target jurisdictions, strengthen internal IP layout and risk management, and mitigate potential disputes at the source.
